Color trends for 2010 have been unveiled, and
the overall theme is to bring hope, serenity, comfort, security, and
escape back into our lives with the use of color in our homes. Pantone
the global authority on color and provider of professional color
standards for the design industries, announced their color of the year
for 2010 to be turquoise. Turquoise provides a feeling of exotic escape,
and tranquility as we relate it to fantasy get aways, and the
tranquility of water, and beautiful blue skies. Yellow is THE color for
this year’s decorating palettes, and moss green is making an appearance
in many of the upscale home magazines taking the place of the kelly and
lime greens. Yellow is vibrant like no other, while green is calming
and soothing, combined they make quite a statement. Lavender is the
newcomer on the scene and is the must-have color for the bedroom,
signifying elegance and luxury in a toned down fashion. Lavender is also
being used for everything from cooking ranges to washing machines. In a
bad economy, lavender provides a lift to feel royal in the kitchen or
laundry. Slate and charcoal grays are the new neutrals, however with the
continued surge in interest for organic or environmentally friendly
products, beiges, browns, and greens will continue to be in play. I have
read mixed reviews on blue, one source says it will make a comeback,
and another said it would be out in order to keep us mindful of
conserving water. Red and white pairings were listed by one source as
being popular, and the shades of red will be darkened with purple and
blue tones. In 2010 we will be mixing punchy colors with pastel shades
or very dark tones and complementing them with neutrals - shades that
you wouldn't ordinarily think of putting together, but that actually
complement each other well. Browns, greens and other neutrals will be
combined with pinks, blues yellows, and purples.
